World-class weatherproofing membrane technology backed by practical local expertise
At LAROS, we believe everyone should have access to healthy, comfortable and efficient homes and workplaces.
When building or renovating, most people think about insulation, windows and efficient heating or cooling. What many people don’t realise is that with increased energy efficiency measures, there is also an increased risk of condensation and mould within the structure.
Using vapour control membranes is one of the simplest, most cost-effective ways to improve the performance, durability and liveability of your home, delivering benefits you’ll notice every day.
If you could have a building that is either very energy efficient OR mould free, which one would you choose?
Pro Clima is the world leading membrane system that allows you to achieve both.
Healthy indoor air
by preventing mould and limiting dust, pollen, and outdoor pollutants.
Comfort
with fewer drafts and reducing outside noise that enters through gaps.
Lower energy bills
by reducing heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer.
Durability
Protect your building for it’s entire lifetime

External WRB Membranes for Airtightness and Weatherproofing
What is weatherproofing and why is it important?
Many people assume cladding protects the building from the elements. BUT:
- External cladding and bricks are not wind-tight, air movement can reduce the insulation thermal performance by over 90%.
- External cladding and bricks are not 100% water-tight, even small water leaks can have a big impact which may be hidden until it’s too late.
- No part of your building’s structure is designed to prevent the conditioned air inside your building from leaking out. A common misconception is that airtightness should be achieved mainly with the internal wrap.
That’s why you need a continuous wind-tight, water-tight, air-tight weather-resistive barrier (WRB) between the cladding and insulation. It must be installed correctly and remain intact for the life of the building.
Use the external WRB as the primary airtight layer. It is simpler, more reliable and improves overall building performance.
Internal Membranes for Moisture Protection
Given that airtightness is much easier to do on the outside, does this mean internal membranes are optional?
Absolutely not!
It’s a common misconception that internal membranes are only for airtightness or only for Passive Houses. The reality is that the internal membrane does all the heavy lifting for preventing moisture getting trapped in your walls where it fosters mould growth and structural rot.
If the budget is already tight, would it not be good enough to save the money and not install the internal wrap? We would ask you if you would consider using cheaper and weaker foundations for your building such as diluting the concrete for your slab. Would you be happy to take that risk? That’s how important the internal membrane is to the proper functioning of an energy efficient building.
In fact, the higher the energy efficiency you are trying to achieve, the higher the risk of condensation and mould in your structure and the more important the internal membrane becomes.
If the budget is tight, consider not saving money on the fundamental structure and function of your building fabric, but maybe on the fit-out which can be upgraded later much more easily.
Design Workshops
LAROS runs quarterly workshops exclusively for architects and building designers so you can learn about building physics, compliance with the National Construction Code and ask questions about detailing.
Michael Kingsland has a Masters degree in Physics and Engineering and has been working in building physics advice and construction since 2012. There are few in the building industry with the depth and breadth of Michael’s theoretical understanding and practical expertise.
These sessions run for 4 hours and cover both theory and some hands-on examples for real construction scenarios. The cost for attendance is $90 per person excl. GST.

Installation Training
LAROS runs monthly installation training sessions at the MBA in Fyshwick for Builders, subcontractors and tradespeople.
The sessions start with a short theory class on the science of building membranes.
Then we move to the practical component where we demonstrate the fastest, most effective ways to install the Pro Clima system. We show you and then you get a chance to practice your new skills.
The sessions run for about 4 hours on a Tuesday morning.
These sessions are great for upskilling your team and positioning your business at the top of the Canberra market.
