The lights came on and the heaters whirred at the Bungendore School of Arts last Wednesday evening as 10 interested souls braved the night chills to learn about the principles of Passivhaus design and construction at a free Public Information evening conducted by Andreas, Glen and staff from LAROS Technologies.
The basic design principles and technologies for seamless thermal breaking, rigorous air sealing, energy recovery ventilation and control of solar gain through external blinds were discussed, and many folk expressed their appreciation for coming to understand the ‘package of ideas’ that go together to make a house with outstanding comfort, health and the smallest energy footprint – a Passivhaus.
Those with an ongoing interest to see just how Passivhaus designs and technologies can be incorporated into either a new build, or retrofit to an existing building, joined the Passivhaus Tour on Saturday afternoon, and saw, and felt, for themselves how these design principles come together to make comfortable, quiet and visually appealing homes.
If you’re thinking of building your new home, or want to find out what can be done to improve the comfort and energy footprint for your existing home, you may be interested to start with a look at resources at www.laros.com.au, and then perhaps book a time to come and visit the office at 2/5 Bodalla Place, Fyshwick (just opposite the Fyshwick Post Office) to discuss what can be achieved.
